Greetings from Doing for the Least Ministries!
Coming up on the end of another year let’s take a look at some of the highlights and see what’s been happening and where we are headed. As in any business one determines progress by looking at the goals that have been accomplished in the past. So let’s give it a try.
To re-cap the events of 2011, after the first of this year we determined to take the direction of staying with the Spanish church group room for our support group ministry. Since then, the effort has been stable and numbers have balanced out. The ministry support groups for another year have brought in 70 people from Drug Court and Probation, plus a few from other sources. Along with this, our volunteer helpers Richard Ortiz and Richard Vinson have remained faithful and are appreciated more and more. These two men have proven to be one of greater steps forward in our efforts. Then not going unmentioned is Cindy Brandt who keeps track of the names and numbers for our group meetings. Within the group is Johnny Loera who continues to help out with driving and meeting room matters while also offering good comments at group studies. While there have been others from time to time helping out, these mentioned have remained with me on the battle front on a regular basis. Of course, there is also my Board of Directors that oversees the business side of the ministry, plus all of the faithful contributors, which without, the ministry could not exist. Therefore, as for goals our team has been developed; not withstanding we can always use others.
Another notable accomplishment is the implementation of the Biblical Faith based approach to recovery. In the spring of this year we went to the 12 Steps DFTLM version. Getting about half way through I saw that most of our clients were not getting there. The objective is to lead them in developing the faith principle to change behavior, which involves changing the person’s belief system to bring about positive change. We began with the Belief Therapy principles and illustrations (which are on our website). Using these principles we identify the lies that are believed and the sinful nature behind them. Then we began to use the Faith Process Study Guide, which was developed from my own studies in faith. The topics cover the idea of faith, who Jesus is, his authority and foundational principles of behavior. The material used is found in the recovery books of Matthew and John and is summed up in “What He Accomplished” as documented in Romans. Then the DVD’s “Case For The Creator”, “Case For Faith” & “Case For Christ” have been used. My aim is to equip these individuals with Biblical principles to deal with those life controlling problems that got them where they are.
At the Nursing home this summer, we began a new method that would hopefully attract some of the younger residences. We have been using the Matthew DVD to give each a more visual perspective. The regular residents that come, 6-10 weekly, seem to be responsive. We have had a few older new residents come, although the younger ones haven’t shown much interest. However, the study group and visits to those in the recovery unit remains ongoing as do regular individual visits to offer encouragement and express concern and love. With the number of people staying long term or short, the opportunities are open. Along with this, the Christian Appeals are given to residence and the staff.
There have been other small efforts I’ve made but this seems to be to focus we are on right now. So viewing the past year, we feel we have accomplished some things.
Finally, the only matter that is left is our continuous plea for more people to unite with us and do for the least of these in the area of funding. In the first part of the year we sent out the presentation and are looking into other means of funding the ministry. My plan has always been “A Little From A Many Accomplishes Much”. That has been my approach and continues to be the approach I believe in. I just continue to call for all you who can and are willing to send small or large amounts. Please refer to our website presentation www.doingfortheleast.com <http://www.doingfortheleast.com> to see how you as an individual, church or organization can help in this ministry.
